The Christmas Spirit; Helping, Giving, Laughing & Loving

Something really funny happened yesterday when my wife was taking the kids to school…  Last weekend we had an anniversary party for my parents.  They were celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary, and we had 24 of their friends come to our house for a dinner party.  My kids served and cleared, so they were like little waitresses and a waiter taking care of our guest’s needs.  (they did a great job too!)  My parents are older, and so were some of the friends they had on the guest list.  It was a great time for my folks, and everyone enjoyed the evening…

So back to the funny part…  In the car on the way to school the radio hosts were talking about doing something for someone less fortunate for the holidays.  The suggestions included things like; Take groceries to a family in need, serve in the downtown soup kitchen, buy an Angel Tree gift, give to the bell ringers, and even invite an elderly couple over for dinner.  So imagine, four kids riding to school, not talking because they are all tired that early, a pretty quiet ride, all listening to the radio, and when the suggestion, “invite and elderly couple to dinner” was made, my youngest daughter blurted out, “I guess we got that one covered!”  My wife nearly had to pull the car over she was laughing so hard!  I love kids’ comments like that… so real, so true and so blunt!

The radio hosts were right, take a minute and think of how your family can help another family – this is a great time of year to give back.  And may your holiday season be full of joy and laughter!
