Our morning wake up routine around here needs some help. Our kids have to leave the house by 7:20 to get to school on time. That means that we have to get them up no later than 6:30. Somehow in the mess of things our two dogs decided that they need to get up around 6:00 AM to eat. There is nothing more frustrating that having to get up BEFORE the alarm goes off! The worse part is after they eat and go out, they sleep the rest of the morning!
Then the fun begins. Over and over again we tell the kids to get their clothes ready the night before, and to some degree they do, but usually socks wind up missing, or dirty and we have one that loves to pull dirty clothes out of the hamper and pass them as clean – typical male. Today there was a missed belt loop, 35 trips up and down the stairs, 3 redirects, two personal attempts to do hair – one mother solved hair combing, black shoes with khaki shorts, a scavenger hunt to find the white shoes, dirty socks exchanged for clean – after the white shoes were on, homework on the table, lunches being packed on the way out, breakfast in the microwave warming while the rest of the kids were in the car, the fight over shotgun and the final exit – the last one out left the garage door open so the dogs were trying to see what mischief they could find in the garage. As Trish and the kids were leaving (while one was still warming breakfast,) on her way out over the fighting going on over “shotgun’ in the garage, she reminded me how pleasant it is to drive them to school everyday.
Thank God for Mothers… She does this everyday. I love mother’s day because it is the day we get to celebrate her for all she puts up with, and around here she puts up with a lot! But I need your help. I need some great ideas to celebrate her, she doesn’t like me to spend a bunch of money on her, and she loves it when the thought or gift comes from the heart, but I have four kids to involve in the celebration, and breakfast in bed loses it’s impact when you have to hurry out the door to go to church… so tell me; if you are a mother what is the best thing you have ever had done on mother’s day, if you are not, what did you do for your mom that was really cool? I know summer break wont come soon enough, then it all goes back to lazy days and sleeping in – and the house will be quiet in the morning again – except for the dogs… and they will be my alarm clock all summer long – that’s okay though, I have a lot of work to do!
In the awwww! category: I still have the first thing ever purchased by my child with his very own money…a plastic flower hour glass egg timer. A treasure. Mothers can be nostalgic about these things. Guys esp. can go from their dad buying stuff to their wife buying stuff for dear old mom, so it’s great that you want it to be the perfect thing. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but probably not the newest Wii that the kid wants. It would be neat to see what each child thinks is a must for Mom. (Usually), it really is about motive…so anything with an electric cord is definitely OUT.
I THINK THE BEST GIFT IS A QUIET MORNING NO FIGHTING OR FUSSING NO “WHAT IS FOR LUNCH? ” NO “WHAT WERE YOU THINKING FOR DINNER?” I THINK THE BEST APPRECIATION IS SHOWN THROUGH ACTIONS OH AND MAYBE INSTEAD OF BREAKFAST IN BED WHICH DOESN’T WORK AS WE ARE GETTING READY FOR CHURCH HOW ABOUT ” DINNER IN BED ” WITH MY FAVORITE SHOWS!!!! JUST A THOUGHT!
