World-Wide Weather Problems and Natural Disasters

May in Colorado is always unpredictable. My family and I are talking about taking a camping trip after the kids get out of school before Memorial Day. They problem there is you never know what you are going to get weather wise. Yesterday we grilled out on the porch, today is supposed to be 78 degrees, and tomorrow – well, a high of 40! It could even snow. The rest of the week will be an attempt to warm up, and then by next weekend it should be back near 80! But when you are in a trailer depending on nice weather for outdoor activities you have to keep a close eye on stuff.

Compared to the news reports today, we are in great shape. With all that is going on around the world, Colorado has great weather… it seems like the weather this year is much more violent than I remember in years past. The tornados that are tearing up America’s mid section, the Cyclone that devastated Myanmar, and now the earthquake in China – it seems like either weather is changing, I am paying more attention to what is happening elsewhere, or we just have better media coverage.

As American’s we can easily focus on our own problems, and we should take care of things happening here at home for sure – but we have a couple readers that might be able to tell us more about how these tragedies are reported and responded too from different parts of the globe… We would love to hear about how the earthquake and the cyclone are being treated where you are… and for those of you in the States, how do you feel about all that is going on all over the world?

no earthquake reports, didn’t even know there had been one until i read trish’s comment on my blog – when you don’t have tv you miss out on some of those top news stories.

the cyclone, is a cause of great frustration. aid is available and is trickling into the country, but there is no guarantee who will benefit from that aid once it is in country and delivered to the junta. and, out of paranoia, the military government is unwilling to allow foreign aid workers into burma to assess the damage and needs. there are estimates of 100,000 dead and another 1 million plus who are vulnerable because of deteriorating conditions.

here’s a link to the free burma rangers website that gives you a glimpse into what was (and still is) the situation in burma before the cyclone.

I was just thinking about all of this this morning. To me, its scary. The world is changing right before our eyes, and in my opinion, not in a very positive way. With nature becoming more violent due to climate change, nations fighting, the aids crisis, poverty skyrocketing, and the economy going who knows where, it is quite frightening to think what the next month brings, or what the next 6 months bring, or even what the next year brings.

I know exactly what you mean… How much of this do you think is a result of us becoming more aware of things due to new science findings and information being more and more available? There have always been earthquakes, always been tornados, always flooding etc… so is it happening more frequently or is it because the world is a smaller place. I mean, I still cannot imagine a country where leaders ignore their populations dying and not asking for help! Is the world really becoming a more dangerous place to live or is it that we are able to see reports of the devastation globally? If the world is becoming a more dangerous place to live, what gives you hope in the future? And what are we doing to help it become better, or relieve suffering, or at least somehow find joy in these days?

TK’s link is interesting, do we need to go that far? can we save ourselves? Are we really in control of our future? Is he over-reacting?

What do you think? is it Y2K all over again? I think it is interesting how quickly we can go there…

The Bible describes these times as the last days. I hope that you’ve asked for forgiveness from your sins and know Jesus as Savior and Lord. A biblical worldview makes current events,a thousand times, less scary – knowing that God is in control and these things must happen. The Lord will return soon, be prepared! You are an eternal being… seek the kingdom of God, His righteousness, believe in Christ and live with Him for all eternity. Reject Him and be in the lake of fire for eternity. These are choices you must make now, before your appointment with death comes. God bless you.

    Gayle,

People have been saying they are living in the “end times” for about 2000 years now, and although it always seems like what the Bible describes is applicable to whatever current days they are living in, it also says no one, not even Christ Himself knows the exact time of the Return. Using this method of “evangelism” is a put off to most people and does the exact opposite of what it sounds like you are hoping to do.

Be careful that the way you present the message doesn’t de-value those that need to hear the it the most. If it is an agenda that makes people targets Christians have lost the whole purpose behind it… All people are valuable, important, and we must treat them with dignity and respect or we will lose the opportunity to share Christ’s message of restorative grace with them. simplistic responses to these kinds of difficult life concerns are not the way we will reach today’s generations.

I do however, have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and I would follow Him anywhere… I also know Him to be a loving God, one that saved me through the Grace that He offers – free with no strings attached and available to all. He doesn’t want ANYONE to burn in the “lake of fire for eternity” and He is patient with us all, those near to Him and those far from Him, THANK GOD! We must realize we are ALL paupers on the door step of God’s grace, those of us in a loving relationship with Him have nothing to fear of the future and what the days hold, but this is still a scary and uncertain time we live in, to deny that is not a genuine approach to life – it is scary and heart breaking to see those people dying – children, mothers, brothers, fathers, trapped under rubble or dying of unsanitary conditions and no food. That is NOT what God desires – pain and suffering of innocent people – people that know where they are going when they die or those that don’t – all are precious to God and it is difficult to watch those images coming from those parts of the world and not wonder what is happening to this planet we inhabit.

I don’t mean to sound like I’m over- re-acting guys. I’m a christian too. I felt the need to prepare and to tell the world about how I’m seeing things. I sold a first aid kit to a lady the other day, she put it underneath her car seat. You just never know when you might need one, at any time an emergency could happen. I don’t think that I’m a worry wart here and don’t think it is bad for people to become prepared. Do you think I’m out of line anyone? I surely hope not.
    Thanks for hearing me out:)

Being prepared is never a bad thing, regardless of your religious beliefs. thank you for sharing your thoughts and preparedness site.

4 tornadoes touched down in western & central Kansas. Weather service called a potentially historic outbreak of tornadoes. People are saying that God is not happy with us and others say global warming is to blame, I think it is all connected together. What do you think?
